APCMs 23rd February 7-00pm

Our annual meetings this year are in St James’ Church on Thursday 23rd February at 7-00pm. To nominate people for appointment please fill the appropriate form. According to law, nominations for churchwardens must be made in writing before the meeting; I ask that they be with me by 18-00hrs on Monday 20th February. Nomination forms are available from me at the Rectory or in church.

These are important meetings for the church especially this year prior to the Interregnum – please attend if you are able – St James is YOUR church.

At the annual meetings we elect people for the PCC and this year three people for Deanery Synod, forms are available from Lucy Mason or Fr Peter and must be returned to Lucy by noon on Sunday 19th February to allow her to prepare voting papers.                                                                                                                  Fr Peter.

Men’s Breakfast

The Men’s Breakfast will take place on Saturday 12th November and will begin, as usual with Mass in St James at 8-00am and then at the Rectory for breakfast and meeting, concluding at 10-00am.There will not be a speaker at this meeting but we will consider how to move on in the future with regard to speakers and breakfast when the Rectory is no longer available for us. This means it will be an important meeting looking to the future and future development, so please come along if you can.

The Annual Day of Prayer and Giving Saturday 8th October

Our annual Day of Prayer and Giving for the work of God’s Church in this part of Colchester will be held on Saturday 8th October. All church members will receive a letter about this important day.

 The finances of the parish church rely heavily on this day, so please be as generous as you are able. If you are not part of the regular Stewardship at St James, you will also receive some information about this at the same time.

This year, with the prospect of an interregnum before us, it is even more essential than usual that we meet our financial commitments. Parishes that do not manage to do this may not get a new priest when they need one.

 Please do your best to join us in church to keep St James’ prayed in all day, or if you cannot get into church, please pray at home instead.


National Heritage Weekend

Heritage weekend falls over the weekend of 10th & 11th September, as usual St James will be open on Saturday to welcome visitors. This year, as well as keeping St James open for visitors,  there is to be a table-top sale with cakes, books and bric-a-brac in the Churchyard.

Any offer of items to sell to Stephen Pawlak please and they may also be left in church table top sale. Perhaps this might be a good time to have turn out of your cupboards.

Social Occasions in June

mens-breakfastMen’s Breakfast: The next Men’s Breakfast will be held on Saturday 4th June. It will begin with Mass in Church at 8-00am and be followed by breakfast at the Rectory from 8-30am and will conclude by 10-00am.

Our speaker this time will be John Burton who has a long and distinguished career as an architect. He has been architect to St James’ Church, Canterbury Cathedral, and Westminster Abbey and is currently architect to the Crown Estate in London. He will speak to us about his varied professional life under the title “How craftsmanship has shaped my life”. All men are very welcome to join us.
