Lent 2016

We will be handling Lent in a slightly different way this year. Rather than meeting every Wednesday after Mass at the Rectory, we will be meeting at different venues and days of the week, which will hopefully allow more people to attend. Our topics for consideration this year will be the major services of Lent and Holy Week. So whilst it would be good to attend all of the meetings each one will stand-alone, so if you cannot manage them all or indeed only one, come along anyway. Each session will begin at 7-45pm and finish by 9-30pm at the latest.

The First Week of Lent, Wednesday 17th February 7-45pm – 49 Peache Road.

The devotional service of Stations of the Cross, its history and significance

The Second Week of Lent, Monday 22nd February 7-45pm – 6 Falcon Crescent.

The Chrism Mass.

The Third Week of Lent, Wednesday 2nd March 7-45pm – The Rectory.

The Maundy Thursday Mass of the Last Supper.

The Fourth Week of Lent, Thursday 10th March 7-45pm – 60b East Hill.

The Good Friday Liturgy of the Day.

The Fifth Week of Lent, Thursday 17th March 7-45pm – 10 Bristol Road.

The Easter Vigil.

Please speak with Fr Peter if you need or could offer transport.

Lent Working Parties

Working Parties will meet every Saturday morning in Lent at 9-30am following the Saturday Mass and will finish with refreshments by 11-00am. There is always a lot to do to keep St James looking good, so please come along to help if you can.

There will be a special working party in St James, on Holy Saturday, 26th March, beginning at 9-00am, to prepare and decorate St James for Easter. Lots of different things to do so all help will be gratefully received.

Stations of the Cross

Stations of the Cross - Via Crucis - KreuzwegStations of the Cross will be prayed on the Fridays of Lent and once again we will be joining with our friends from St James the Less, in Priory Street. Each week Stations of the Cross will be at 7-30pm, they are very important occasions and if we can, we ought to support them. This is a very good, albeit small, discipline for Lent.
