For the last two years we have engaged in very successful Mission Weeks, making contact with all the houses in two different parts of the parish.
As a church we have been encouraged in one of the prime duties of the Christian, to reach out to others with the Good News of Jesus Christ. We also learnt things during our former mission weeks which will stand us in good stead for the future. Our Mission Weekend this year will be Friday 4th September until Sunday 6th September. This year we will be visiting the Broadlands estate, just off Ipswich Road.
On Wednesday 22nd July there will be the usual Wednesday Mass at 7-00pm. This will be followed by coffee and cake and the rest of the evening will be devoted to exploring more about our week of Mission. Why do we go out? How do we go out? What are the tools we need to go out? Please come along to this evening to find out more, it is for all members of St James’ Church and not just those who are more closely involved with the Mission.
St James’ Day, Sunday 26th July, is a special day in the life of our church. It is a day of celebration for all that we have and share and one of prayer for guidance for the future.
The Sung Mass will be at 10-00am. The preacher this year will be Fr Darren Smith from the Additional Curates Society. The Mass will be followed by a Bring and Share lunch in the church and, weather permitting, the churchyard.
St James’ School will come up to church on Monday 20th July for their end of year leavers Eucharist. It is very important to encourage the children in their worship please come and support them if you can. The Mass will begin at around 9-15am.
The Sacraments of Healing will be celebrated on Wednesday 15th July at the 7-00pm Mass. If you would like to receive these Sacraments please join us for the Mass on that day.
On Monday 6th July at 7-30pm in St Botolph’s Church there will be an opportunity for the Archdeacon and the Colchester Area Parish Development Office to share with us their vision for the future of the church in the Deanery of Colchester.
Everyone is welcome to attend, please join us.
