Heritage Day and Ride and Stride

Image Every year The Friends of Essex Churches organise their annual Ride and Stride, when people are encouraged to ride or walk around the churches of the Diocese and to be sponsored as they do it.

Half of any money raised goes to the Friends of Essex Churches and half to the church of those who are sponsored. We have been part of this for a number of years and several people from St James are taking part.

If you would like to sponsor someone have a word with Fr Peter who can tell you some of those who are preparing to walk or ride.

At St James we strive to keep the church open to welcome visitors, help is always needed to do this. If you can be in church for some of the day please add your name to the list in church.

The Ride and Stride will take place on Saturday 13th September, which is also heritage day when many places of historical interest or special sites are open to the public. St James will be open as part of this and it will be well advertised, so we ought to be able to expect many visitors.

This year there will also be various activities going on in and around the Church with a Bar-B-Que, Cake Sale and Table Top Sale. Stephen Pawlak will be organising the Table Top Sale if you have anything that might be suitable to sell please speak with Stephen. Bric a Brac, books, cakes, preserves etc., all gratefully received. This is in aid of church funds.

For the first time, for Heritage Day, there is also the exciting possibility of an Organ Trail around the town, with various organs being played at different times of the day. If this comes to pass, St James will be part of the Organ Trail.
