The Venerable Ernest Stroud SSC: RIP
It is with sadness we note the death of Fr Ernie Stroud, a priest for over 50 years and Archdeacon of Colchester from 1983 to1997. He was a good friend to St James and its priests. Fr Ernie was in the forefront of the catholic movement in the Church of England for much of his ministry. After serving curacies in the Wakefield Diocese and then in Whitby he came to be the first vicar of All Saints Church in Chelmsford, where he was instrumental in the building of the Parish Church. He moved from there to become vicar of St Margaret’s Church, Leigh on Sea. In these parishes he trained many curates and raised a great number of vocations to the priesthood. Among the vocations he helped to foster was that of the current Bishop of Chelmsford. Nationally he acted both as Chairman of the Church Union and of the Additional Curates Society and served on General Synod for many years. He, always so ably supported by his wife Jeanne, was a familiar and ever friendly face at diocesan events. He will be sadly missed by the many that knew and loved him and were supported by his faithful ministry. Our prayers and our love go out to Jeanne and their daughters Teresa and Bridget and their families.
Jesus Mercy, Mary Pray.
